Last Fall, school administration, teachers and a survey conducted by your fundraising coordinators helped us determine an investment in technology was a top priority for this year’s budget.
As CPAC carried a relatively large surplus from the 2017 school year, a major fundraiser was not determined to be necessary in order to meet the need for new laptop carts to replace the school’s aging technology for use in the classroom. For 2018, a minimum of $30,000 of the funds raised through the generous contributions of our parent population will go towards purchasing at least 20 new laptops for students and teachers’ use in the classroom. $7000 from this year’s budget has been allocated to another larger initiative: the commissioning of a welcome carving by Latash, master carver of the Squamish Nation. Students will have an opportunity to work with and learn from Latash as the carving takes shape on a large section of cedar donated by a Cleveland family.
Next year’s major project, a redesign of the school’s outdoor courtyard space to introduce more outdoor opportunities for learning, is already involving some Cleveland students and teachers in its conception. This special project will require the coordination of a major fundraiser for the 2018/19 school year, and the further support and engagement of our school community.
Do you have questions about your CPAC’s budget? Would you like to hear regular updates about what is happening at Cleveland and in the larger family of schools? Do you want to learn more about what is involved with serving on the CPAC Executive Committee? CPAC meetings happen at 7:00 pm in the school library on the last Tuesday of each month.
