THANK YOU CLEVELAND
Well done everyone for your contributions during Earth Month.
Here are some highlights…
- Almost every child in the school participated in a >1hr long outdoor forest stewardship and invasive plant pull – aka “Free the Trees”. Thats ~ 450 kids learning about why forests matter and what can be done to sustain them!
- We had over 85% participation in our walk to school day, with 6 classes seeing 100% of kids (and teachers) who walked or rolled to school. By far our greatest participation ever.
- Our fun Cleveland Street Party was a huge success and we temporarily closed the street for excellent tunes (thank you Christian!), basketball, street hockey, art and general free play. You can see our drone footage here (thanks to Grade 6 student Tristan R)
- Lots of families came to our second annual Planet Protector Day – where we installed a new Habitat Garden (thank you Pacific Salmon Foundation for the grant!), built nest boxes, learned about plastic in the ocean and what to do about it, planted seeds, looked at raptors, and had a wonderful teaching session with three generations of the George family from the Squamish and Tseil Waututh Nations.
Special thanks to the wonderful parent volunteers who made it all possible, especially Ann Lovold, Donna Kurtz, Falguni Patel, Jeneen Sutherland, Taryn Leadbeater, Christian Behneke and Stephanie Snider. Thanks also for the unfailing support from Bill and the rest of our school admin.
